2.The sit-ins got there name by how they sat in restaurants.I also agree with Robert.

A sit-in in the year 1960 is where many black college students went to restaurants which denied service to blacks. The black college students would sit in the restaurants until they were forced to leave.
A "sit-in" is an act of protest that involves nonviolently occupying an area that is prohibited. During the American Civil Rights Movement, many blacks would enter a white-only restaurant and refuse to leave. If they continued to stay after they were asked to leave, they would be thrown in jail.

Black, Brown, Yellow, White...judge me by the contents of my character, not by the color of MY skin! America is not a "melting pot", it is a "salad bowl" of many variety of veggies and fruits (and some nuts)! Each should be treated equally.
Freedom riders were people who believe that different races are made equally and should be treated fairly. They travel town to town protesting that they shouldn't be treated differently.
a sit in is when black teenagers sat in a returant and forsted the people to make them leave they would "sit in" every day till the law could be changed
a "sit-in" is a form of direct action that involves one or more persons nonviolently occupying an area for protest, often to promote political, social, or economic change. 1. What was a “sit-in”? Where and how did it get its name?
a sit-in is an expression used in the time of the 1960's for the occasions when a young black college student would enter a restaurant that denied Negro service and sit at the counter until they were made to leave, either by force or by question. Doing so was, in a form, a kind of rallying against the prejudice felt towards the black peoples.
2. What were “freedom riders”? Are there any today in todays society?
The phrase freedom riders characterizes the people who traveled from city to city declaring and spreading the principles and convictions of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his belief on the peaceful form of rallying for the black rights.

kk. lets see... a "sit-in" is a restaurant, where the black people stay in and then they get forced to move out. a "freedom-writer" is a person who goes from place to place to teach about the history of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. :D lolx. and i think thats its. :P
(From Wikipedia) A "sit-in" is a form of direct action that involves one or more persons nonviolently occupying an area for protest, often to promote political or social change. A sit-in is a form of nonviolence.
The Blacks would sit at the counters of "White Only" diners and refuse to leave.
Alexis Coria 7th grade!: 1.) I agree with Aimee! A "sit in" is where colored people sat at a lunch counter until they were ask to leave. 2.) Freedom riders spread the ideas of Martin Luther King Jr.!
A "sit-in" is when black (and some white) students go to an all white dinner and sit on the counters. they were forced to leave but some resisted. A lot of students were arrested.
A "sit in" is when black people would sit at a counter in a diner (PROHIBITED AREA) *DANGA* and if they refused to move they would be thrown in jail . . . BY THE MAN!!!
I agree with the 8th grade class, (im doing this cause i have nothing better to do) A sit in was when black students sat at places they werent allowed to sit in. Bea Tan:5th Gr. A sit-in is a non-violent protest by the college studenta against the unfair treatment of the black people. This happened in restaurants where only white people are being servced.
MLK headed the Freedom Riders that travels from places to places informing people about the inequality suffered by the black people. They also promoted for the fairness for all colored people by peaceful means.
1. What was a “sit-in”? Where and how did it get its name? Andy woo 8th grade A sit in was in the 1960's when black teenagers went 2 sit in white dinners. They were ordered 2 leave, but when they didnt, they were arrested. Freedom riders are people who went from city 2 city tlaking about Dr.M.L. King Jr.'s ideas (hes sure got a long title and they called him father 2..) im like the last guy 2 do dis 2 lawl. So wats up Mr. Manjarrez?
I think Sit-Ins are when the African American people would go and occupy most a "white only" area and refuse to leave when the police asked them to. I agree with most people that did this question.
I'm impressed! Sorry I couldn't stay longer. I'm going to miss having class with you. Do keep in touch. We are playing on March 15 at Steamer's in Sierra Madre.
Um,sorry for being a little bit late on answering the questions, but here goes.
1. A "sit-in" is a form of protest. This word got it's name back in the time when Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was trying to bring rights to all blacks. The black college students went into whites only diners and sat there until they were forced to leave.
2.The Freedom Riders were people who were like preachers that preached about what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is trying to spread all over to the states and convince them to give blacks all the rights that a white person would have.

I agree with cesar on number 2
they beat me and they starved me
they worked me till i bled
i toiled in the bitter cold
and was burned by the sun overhead
they treat me like i am
a second-class citizen
they laugh at me when they hurt me
and my cries echo in the wind
i am still a person
with a heart and with a mind
how can they not see that?
how can they be so blind?
to them, i'm nothing more
than an object to be used
they do whatever they want with me
they leave me here, abused
but still i hold a hope
glimmering like a flame
that one day, they may call me
not by the word slave,
but by my name
i rally for my people
for my children yet unborn
so that they may live
to see freedom
when comes the shining new morn

A sit-in is a non-violent protest by the college studenta against the unfair treatment of the black people. This happened in restaurants where only white people are being servced.
MLK headed the Freedom Riders that travels from places to places informing people about the inequality suffered by the black people. They also promoted for the fairness for all colored people by peaceful means.
